Something to see

Yesterday Greg, Killian and I headed to Green Field Village in Dearborn. Greg and I hadn't been there since we were children and Killian hadn't been there yet. I have been to the grounds recently to go to DSO concerts, but haven't enjoyed the historical and educational part of it since maybe middle school some time.
Greg and I weren't really sure what to expect for a crowd. It was warm out but over cast and it was suppose to rain. We figured we wouldn't melt so lets head out. We are so glad we chose to go yesterday! There was hardly anyone there which made it a great experience for us. Killian was in a "oooh" and "ahhh" mood which was adorable. Everything he saw he really said "ooooooh" or "aaahhhhhahhhh" like he was discovering things for the first time.
The first place we went to was a replica of the Firestone's old home from the 1800's. It was the living farm. We actually walked in on a group eating dinner and I felt bad! They laughed and explained that's just what they do.
Killian got to see the sheep, chickens, cows and farm cat. I think that was my favorite part of the day. We then carried on around the rest of the village. I got to take Killian on his first carousel ride. I think he enjoyed it! He got a little annoyed that he kept loosing site of Greg but he loved the music that was played. He even made friends with a woman from Greenfield Village who he flirted with for quite a bit of time.

We went to a brief school session in the elementary school there. It was fun to learn a little about what the children were learning back in 1837. Girls sat on one side of the room and boys on the other.
We checked out the hat makers shop which was an actual shop from downtown Detroit. They let Killian try on one of the hats and of course, we think he looked just adorable! Greg and the man working in the electrical building hit it off and we spent some time in there talking to him.

We ended our day in the air conditioned cafeteria style restaurant just as they were closing. Killian had some lunch and we had some snacks and cooled down. We watched a game of old style baseball and then headed towards the car.
Once we got to the car, it started raining maybe 5 minutes later. I couldn't believe how lucky we were! We had a great day as a family and missed the rain! I can't wait to take Killian back some day when he is a little older.
